About the Arp Volunteer Fire Department

In the 1920s the Town of Arp started a fire dept. which most of the records were lost. The station is located on Lowery ST. behind the chamber building. In 1931 the town of Arp became a city and the Fire dept. became The City of Arp Vol. Fire Dept. Inc. and their meetings were held every 2nd and 4th Monday of every month. In AUG of 1979, the citizens of Arp voted to build a new Fire station which would be moved to HWY 135 and cost $103,500 it would consist of 3 bays and house 6 fire apparatus and have a meeting room and bathrooms. That was the home of the City of Arp Vol. Fire Dept. INC for many years. In 2007 the ESD 2 was established and provided paid staff from 8-5 and in Sept of 2020, the Smith County ESD 2 built the Arp fire dept. a new station which moved to 201 Main ST. The new station became a 24-hour staffed station which consist of 5 bays 3 pull-through bays and two back-in bays, 4 bunk rooms, two shower rooms, a day room, a conference/training room, commercial kitchen and dining room, two offices, a weight room, radio room, and a locker room to house the firefighters' gear.

The City Of Arp Vol. Fire Dept. INC. consists of 3 fire stations, 3 fire engines, 2 tankers, 3 brush trucks, and a side-by-side. The new station is manned 24/7 with three paid ESD 2 personnel. The Volunteer fire dept. consist of 16 members with 10 members that are entry certified.

District Chief:

Chief Mack Arnold grew up in the small town of ARP and started on the fire dept. in 1980 as a rookie volunteer firefighter. And in 2006 was voted Chief of the fire dept. and is still currently chief as he gets pleasure out of giving back to his community. Chief Arnold has served on the committee for long-range planning for ESD since 2009.
